George Washington is so old school! Yawn…let’s talk about someone interesting!
If that’s your first response to yet another book about George, you are about to be surprised! EPL Russ reviews this readable yet informative book about our first president.
Being George Washington: The Indispensable Man, as You’ve Never Seen Him by Glenn Beck was a very exciting read to me. I loved the historical accuracy of the entire book, but also loved how Mr. Beck related different excerpts from the book to today.
In many instances throughout the book, Mr. Beck will tell the story of Washington in a certain situation and relate it to today, or something to be implemented into our own lives. What I thought was going to be a book all about George Washington, turned out to be almost “Leadership 101″–very inspiring.
One of my favorite chapters was chapter 12, “A Moment of Crisis, a Lifetime of Preparation.” It talks about the Newburgh conspiracy and how Washington dealt with it. It really made me take a closer look at my life to see how I’m preparing myself for whatever “moment” I will face in life.
Overall, Being George Washington was a great read and I highly recommend it–not only for the historical value or for the not-so-known life of George Washington–but also for the life lessons and lessons in leadership. It is a very good book.
